On May 25, 2023, 19-year-old Zion Craig Bowden of Raleigh, North Carolina, was fatally shot in Durham. The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the 300 block of Ganyard Farm Way, a residential area off Holloway Street. Durham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting and found Bowden suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation by Durham police suggested that the shooting was not a random act. However, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. A funeral service for Bowden was held on June 4, 2023, at Union Grove Church of Christ Disciple of Christ in Clinton, North Carolina, followed by burial in the McLamb Family Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Lavonda and Antoinne Craig Bowden; brothers, Jordan Omar Bowden and Isaac Antoinne Bowden; and grandparents, Margaret Hooks, Brenda Boone, and River Earl Bowden.
