On September 29, 2023, 17-year-old Brady Lee Mercer of Chadbourn, North Carolina, tragically lost his life to gun violence. Born on April 4, 2006, Brady was a student at West Columbus High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sherry F. Mercer of Chadbourn and Billy Joe Mercer. He is survived by his mother, Meghan Renee Iseman of Virginia; his father, Matthew Hall Mercer of Chadbourn; and two sisters, Gabrielle Hall Mercer and Hailey Renee Mercer, both of Chadbourn.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on October 11, 2023, at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Steve Nobles. The family received friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations were requested for the Brady Mercer Burial Fund.
In the wake of this unexpected tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was organized by his grandmother, Sandra Tyler, to assist with funeral costs and support his two sisters during this difficult time. The campaign emphasized the family's unpreparedness for such an unforeseen event and sought community support to cover essential expenses.
