On October 6, 2023, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Union County Sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance call in the Ladera subdivision off Newtown Road in Marvin, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 70-year-old Mousa Nafisi deceased from a possible gunshot wound inside the residence.
The primary suspect, 25-year-old Basil Sami Nafisi, the nephew of the victim and a resident of the home, was immediately taken into custody at the scene. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
As of now, investigators have not determined a clear motive for the alleged patricide. The Union County Sheriff's Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing as they work to uncover the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey extended his deepest sympathies to the victim’s family as they begin to mourn the loss of their loved one. He also assured the community that this appears to be an isolated incident between family members, with no further known threats to public safety.
