On October 27, 2023, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of gunfire on Cain Forest Drive in Walkertown, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Casey Ryan Goolsby, a resident of Walnut Cove, lying in the backyard with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Goolsby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Goolsby had been involved in a confrontation with 23-year-old Tahlyk Neal of Walkertown. The altercation escalated, resulting in Neal allegedly shooting Goolsby. Subsequently, authorities issued warrants for Neal's arrest, charging him with murder, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and fleeing to elude arrest.
On November 9, 2023, Neal surrendered to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. He was taken into custody without incident and held without bond. His initial court appearance was scheduled for November 10, 2023. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
Goolsby was known in the local music scene as "Brazzy Red," a rapper celebrated for his quick thinking and emotionally charged lyrics. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and a three-month-old daughter, Mil'liana Cyn Dior Goolsby. A public viewing was held on November 3, 2023, followed by funeral services on November 4 at Baileytown Christian Church in Walnut Cove.
