On November 15, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Fayetteville police responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Center Street. Upon arrival, officers found 44-year-old Andre Allen Lewis inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Lewis, a resident of Georgia, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on December 18, 2023.

In the course of their investigation, detectives discovered that shortly before the shooting, Lewis had been parked at a convenience store on Camden Road for about 40 minutes. He was seen leaving the store's parking lot with a passenger at approximately 6:18 p.m., heading north on Southern Avenue. Twelve minutes later, he was found alone and wounded in his vehicle on Center Street. A trail of blood was found on Craven Street, leading from Southern Avenue to Center Street, and a handgun was recovered from a trash can at the corner of Southern Avenue and Center Street.

On February 18, 2024, after several months of investigation, Fayetteville police arrested 33-year-old Heather Shontell Lindsay in connection with Lewis's death. Lindsay, a Fayetteville resident, was charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting or the nature of the relationship between Lindsay and Lewis. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Detective S. Shirey at 910-751-3009 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
