On January 2, 2024, at approximately 12:18 a.m., Greensboro Police Department officers responded to reports of an aggravated assault near Summit Avenue and Twain Road in Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Joshua Andre Nealy with life-threatening injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Nealy had been shot in the 1400 block of East Cone Boulevard.
The Greensboro Police Department's Violent Crime Reduction Team swiftly apprehended three individuals in connection with the incident. Zakariya Hassane, 21, was charged with first-degree murder; Elhadj Diango Tandiang, 19, faced charges of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances; and Jakwon Raheem Jacobs, 19, was charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
The shooting incident also impacted the nearby PACE of the Triad facility, a medical and social day program for seniors, which was placed on lockdown during the police investigation. The lockdown was lifted around 5:30 p.m., and no staff or participants were harmed.
A memorial service for Joshua Nealy was held on January 13, 2024, at Triad Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel in Greensboro. He is remembered by his family, including his father, siblings, and son.
