On January 22, 2024, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment on Kay Drive in Smithfield, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a dispute over a misplaced cellphone had escalated into a fatal shooting. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Antwane Deshawn Fellows from Clayton, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
