On January 22, 2024, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment on Kay Drive in Smithfield, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a dispute over a misplaced cellphone had escalated into a fatal shooting. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Antwane Deshawn Fellows from Clayton, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, investigators identified 20-year-old Markyse Naijae McCain of Selma as the primary suspect. Authorities issued a first-degree murder warrant for McCain, who was considered armed and dangerous. A reward of $2,500 was offered for information leading to his arrest.
On January 29, 2024, McCain surrendered to the Smithfield Police Department. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Johnston County Jail without bond. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the events that led to the tragic death of Antwane Fellows.
