On January 23, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., a fatal shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 4500 Fayetteville Road in Garner, North Carolina. The incident began when 29-year-old Colten Valdez intervened in a dispute involving his mother, who was being verbally harassed by another individual as she attempted to back out of a parking space.
