On January 28, 2024, 37-year-old Brandon Giles was fatally shot outside his residence at 709 North Ellis Avenue in Dunn, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. Giles, a father of two with a third child on the way, was found in his driveway with gunshot wounds. He was transported to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, where he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
The day prior to the shooting, Giles had been involved in an altercation with a man, which is believed to have escalated into the fatal encounter. Dunn Police identified 32-year-old Cornelius Leonard Webb as the primary suspect, alleging that Webb shot Giles and then fled the scene. Authorities considered Webb armed and dangerous, issuing warrants for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Investigations revealed that Webb was driven to Giles' residence by 36-year-old Thad Tiee Adams in a red 2007 Volvo S40 sedan. Both Webb and Adams faced charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Additionally, 30-year-old Kerrie Leigh Norris was implicated in the case, though her specific charges were not immediately disclosed.
A coordinated effort involving the Dunn Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Apprehension Team, and the Duplin County Sheriff's Office led to the apprehension of the suspects. On February 2, 2024, Adams and Norris were arrested at a residence near Beulaville, North Carolina. Webb was captured shortly thereafter. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident.
The arrests brought a measure of relief to Giles' grieving family, who described him as a loving individual devoted to his family. Giles left behind two teenage children and was anticipating the birth of his third child with his girlfriend. The community mourned his loss, remembering him for his infectious smile and heart of gold.
