On April 12, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon in the 6200 block of Upas Lane, located in the Hickory Grove Division of Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old Justin Carache-Soto, a local rapper, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics from MEDIC pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Initially, the incident was treated as a death investigation. However, as detectives from CMPD's Homicide Unit delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding Carache-Soto's death, they reclassified the case as a homicide. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect, 23-year-old Alejandro Jose Sequeira. On May 9, 2024, Sequeira was located and arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Washington Field Office in Alexandria, Virginia. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection to Carache-Soto's death.
Following Sequeira's arrest, CMPD detectives traveled to Virginia to interview him. Extradition proceedings were initiated to return Sequeira to Charlotte to face the charges against him. The arrest brought a measure of relief to Carache-Soto's family, who had been notified of the developments in the case. CMPD acknowledged the collaborative efforts of their Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the FBI Washington Field Office in apprehending Sequeira.
