On the evening of May 6, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Shelby Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 600 block of Live Oak Street in Shelby, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 62-year-old Sarah Chambers lying in her front yard with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported her to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that an altercation between two 15-year-old individuals had escalated into a shooting near Chambers' residence. Authorities determined that Chambers was not involved in the dispute; she was an unintended victim caught in the crossfire.
