On July 8, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon in the 8900 block of Cinnabay Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Daniel Gomez with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Gomez had been involved in a family altercation with 62-year-old Luis Gonzalez.
The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Gonzalez allegedly shot Gomez. Gonzalez was arrested at the scene and charged with voluntary manslaughter.
Following his arrest, Gonzalez was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown Charlotte for questioning. After the interview, he was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with CMPD's Homicide Unit leading the case. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to contact the Homicide Unit directly or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
