On July 24, 2024, at approximately 10:25 a.m., the Albemarle Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 1400 block of North Sixth Street in Albemarle, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers found 18-year-old Dy’Zavious Izayah Bivens deceased at the scene. Bivens, a recent graduate of Stanly Academy, was mourned by his family and community.
Through their investigation, detectives identified two 18-year-old suspects: Damani Jacquez Wall of Albemarle and Jamie Jermaine Mack of Kannapolis. Both were initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Authorities indicated that this was not a random act, as the individuals involved were known to each other.
On July 26, Wall turned himself in to the Albemarle Police Department and was booked into the Stanly County Jail. Subsequently, his charges were upgraded to first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. Mack remained at large until August 15, when he was apprehended in Buffalo, New York, by the U.S. Marshal North Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force. He faced similar charges, including first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, and was held in the Erie County Detention Center in Buffalo.
The case remains under investigation by the Albemarle Police Department. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to contact them directly or through the anonymous tip line.
