On August 5, 2024, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Raleigh Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 700 block of Navaho Drive, near Interstate 440 North. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Angel Cirilo De Leon Andrade suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified 39-year-old Mario Fernando Sevilla Cubias as a suspect in Andrade's murder. On August 10, 2024, Cubias was apprehended by troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety on Interstate 40 at Milepost 218, approximately 15 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona. At the time of his arrest, Cubias's intended destination was unknown. He is currently awaiting extradition to North Carolina to face charges related to Andrade's death.
Additionally, 54-year-old Wanda Geomey Moreta-de-Hernan was arrested in Raleigh in connection with the homicide. She has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson highlighted the collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies, stating, "This is an example of tremendous interstate cooperation that sends a message to violent offenders: it does not matter where you flee."
The investigation into Andrade's death remains active, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The arrests of Cubias and Moreta-de-Hernan underscore the commitment of law enforcement to bring justice to victims and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.
