In the early hours of August 11, 2024, Durham Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire near North Roxboro Street and West Club Boulevard. Upon arrival around 1:17 a.m., they discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. Eighteen-year-old Devondra "VJ" Jawan Mack was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
