On August 13, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a welfare check call in the 14000 block of Wynhollow Downs Lane, located in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 17-year-old Aryan Singh Jaswal inside a vehicle. Tragically, Jaswal was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.
Initial investigations revealed that Jaswal had been shot multiple times.
The incident, which occurred in what was described as a typically quiet apartment complex near the intersection of Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Lancaster Highway, shocked the local community. Major J.D. Thomas of the CMPD stated that it was highly unusual for such a crime to take place in that area.
The CMPD Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the case. Detectives worked diligently to gather evidence and identify potential suspects. Crime Scene Search personnel were dispatched to process the scene and collect physical evidence. On October 11, 2024, law enforcement agencies, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Conway Police Department, and the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), successfully located and arrested a 16-year-old suspect in Conway, South Carolina.
The juvenile suspect, whose identity has not been released due to their age, was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Jaswal's death. These charges suggest that the motive for the shooting may have been robbery-related.
The arrest of the suspect marked a significant development in the case, bringing some closure to Jaswal's family and the community. However, the CMPD has stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives continue to gather information and evidence related to the case.
