Carnis Ferdinand Poindexter, a 53-year-old male, was tragically shot and killed on the front porch of a residence in the 8300 block of Highlander Court in Charlotte, NC, early on January 1, 2019. He was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC. Authorities believe Poindexter was shot in the street in front of the residence before running to the porch, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Poindexter's death led to the arrest of three suspects. On March 26, 2019, 19-year-old Furquan Ali Thompson was charged with first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Later, on September 12, 2019, 20-year-old Ronald Benbow III was also charged with first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Finally, 19-year-old Tyler Hokes was charged with the same offenses on September 12, 2019.
