Deputy Sheriff Harland M. Bonner, aged 49, of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Department in Louisiana, was shot and killed on June 22, 1984. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the sheriff's department for 10 years. Deputy Bonner was attempting to arrest a man wanted on a DUI warrant when the suspect overpowered him and gained control of his firearm.
