On September 4, 2024, 15-year-old Anthony Smith was reported missing by his family in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Missing Persons Unit initiated an extensive search to locate him. Six days later, on September 10, officers discovered human remains in a wooded area along Silverleaf Road, near Old Pineville Road in south Charlotte.
