On the evening of September 20, 2024, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, 25-year-old Shareek Donquale Taylor was fatally shot in the 1900 block of Smith Road. Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:22 p.m., discovering Taylor deceased at the scene. Another individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in stable condition.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified 22-year-old Jeremiah Rahakeem Marshall of Hope Mills as a suspect. On October 1, 2024, Marshall surrendered to law enforcement at the Cumberland County Detention Center. He was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Marshall is currently held without bond, with his initial court appearance scheduled shortly after his arrest.
Additionally, the Sheriff's Office sought two individuals for questioning in connection with the case: 22-year-old Kyjuan Maurice McNeill and 20-year-old Maurice Lamont Bell, both from Hope Mills. Their involvement, if any, remains under investigation, and authorities have urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward.
Taylor's death has deeply affected the Fayetteville community. Born on March 6, 1999, to Monica Haynes and Shareef Omar Malik Taylor, he was known for his athletic involvement in basketball, football, and baseball during his school years.
