The incident resulted in the death of 31-year-old Devonta "Von" Ray and left another individual injured. Ray, a well-known and respected member of the community, was fatally shot multiple times in front of his family.
Following the shooting, Ray was transported to UNC Southeastern Health in Lumberton, where he was pronounced dead.

Devonta Ray, affectionately known as "Von," was a dedicated father, husband, brother, and friend. Visitation took place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, followed by a Homegoing Celebration on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
