On November 10, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 1600 block of Eastcrest Drive, an apartment complex near Plaza Midwood in east Charlotte. Upon arrival, they discovered 17-year-old Oscar Paisano-Perez with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, reported witnessing two men near the victim immediately after the shooting. She observed the individuals over the body and made eye contact with one of them before they fled in a vehicle. Fearing for her safety, she quickly closed her blinds and contacted a neighbor.

As of the latest reports, CMPD has not released information regarding any suspects or arrests related to this case. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit directly at 704-432-TIPS, with Detective Jones leading the investigation. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or via their website.

This incident marks the second fatal shooting on Eastcrest Drive within a two-month period. Previously, on September 26, 2024, 25-year-old Khyre’ Grier was found dead from a gunshot wound in the 1700 block. Two suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with his murder.

The recent violence has raised concerns among residents about safety in the area. Some neighbors have expressed fear and are reconsidering their daily routines, while others have taken measures such as carrying firearms for personal protection.

CMPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Paisano-Perez's death and is seeking community assistance to bring those responsible to justice. The department emphasizes the importance of public cooperation in solving such cases and ensuring neighborhood safety.
