Matthew Allen Chaplin, a 51-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically killed on February 24, 2019, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at his home in the Providence Country Club neighborhood. The perpetrator, John Bocek, a 23-year-old male, broke into the house and shot Matthew Chaplin and 15-year-old Jenna Hewitt, a friend of Chaplin's daughter, Kate Chaplin. Bocek then turned the gun on himself, resulting in a double murder-suicide.
