In the early evening of January 14, 2023, tragedy struck at a Burger King on Lyell Avenue in Rochester, New York, abruptly ending the life of 19-year-old Sideic Robinson. A male employee at the fast-food restaurant, Robinson was just finishing his shift when he was fatally shot inside the establishment. The incident, which marked Rochester's first homicide of the year, was not a result of a robbery or a dispute with a customer.
Instead, police quickly determined that Robinson had been intentionally targeted.
The investigation into the shooting progressed over the following month, leading authorities to a suspect. In February, Rochester police arrested 19-year-old Dashaun Tubbs in connection with a separate shooting. Further investigation linked Tubbs to the death of Sideic Robinson. Authorities suggested that the two young men knew each other and that the fatal encounter stemmed from an argument and perceived disrespect.
In the months that followed, the legal process unfolded. Dashaun Tubbs was charged with the murder of Sideic Robinson. Ultimately, Tubbs pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter. In addition to this plea, he also pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon related to another shooting incident that occurred in February. For the killing of Sideic Robinson, Dashaun Tubbs was sentenced to 30 years in prison, bringing a measure of closure to a case that began with a senseless act of violence.
