On April 6, 2023, 18-year-old Mount Vernon High School student, Tomani (also reported as Tamani) Turner, was fatally shot near his home in Mount Vernon, New York. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Garden Avenue and East 4th Street, where Turner sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso.
