On August 18, 2023, 23-year-old Ines Reyes of East Patchogue, New York, was fatally shot following a series of confrontations with Brent Henry, 59, of Riverhead. The initial altercation occurred inside the Bellport residence that Reyes shared with his girlfriend, who is also Henry's niece. This verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight, prompting Reyes and his girlfriend to leave the premises and seek refuge at a family member's home on Amsterdam Avenue in East Patchogue.
