On October 21, 2019, Tyrell D. Smith, a 25-year-old resident of Shirley, New York, was tragically shot and killed in East Patchogue. The incident occurred on Taylor Avenue, where police officers from the Fifth Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a person with possible gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, officers found Smith with gunshot injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
