In the late morning hours of a Thursday in Rochester, New York, a dispute inside a home on Farragut Street escalated with tragic consequences. Davarcea Fort, a 27-year-old male, was fatally wounded in the altercation that took place on February 22, 2024. When police arrived at the scene near Prescott Street, they found Fort with traumatic injuries to his upper body; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another 27-year-old man was also injured during the incident, sustaining a gunshot
wound to his upper body. He was transported to a nearby hospital and was expected to survive his injuries. The initial investigation suggested that a fight preceded the shootings inside the residence.
Following the incident, the Rochester police began an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Thirty-four-year-old Kwame Acosta was taken into custody in connection with the homicide. Authorities charged Acosta with second-degree murder, assault, and menacing for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Davarcea Fort and the wounding of the second victim.
