Jesus Carmona, a 29-year-old Hispanic/Latino man from Syracuse, New York, was known to his loved ones as "Bebo." A father of three, he was remembered after his death as a "loving brother, loving uncle, he was everything and more." Carmona's life had also been marked by an earlier encounter with the justice system. In January 2011, at the age of 15, he was sentenced to ten years to life in prison for his role in another person's death.
On April 13, 2024, Carmona's life was cut short by
gunfire. Syracuse Police were called to Sabine Street, where they discovered Carmona on the front lawn of a residence. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent police investigation led to an arrest the following month. On May 9, 2024, authorities took 16-year-old Josue Pizarro into custody in connection with the killing. Pizarro was charged with murder and held at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center. At the time of the arrest, police did not reveal a potential motive for the shooting.
The case against Josue Pizarro proceeded to trial, but the proceedings ended with a hung jury. Following the jury's inability to reach a verdict, the murder charge against Pizarro was dismissed in July 2026. As of that date, the homicide of Jesus Carmona remains unsolved.
