On April 17, 2024, 45-year-old Brooklyn resident Gamaliel Azaya Oliver was fatally shot. At approximately 2:37 p.m., he arrived at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brownsville, transported by individuals in a dark-colored sedan. Suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Oliver was pronounced dead by hospital staff minutes later.
