In the early summer of 2024, a life was tragically cut short in Rochester, New York. Shaquan Woods, a 26-year-old male, was inside a home on Thurston Road on the evening of Sunday, June 2nd, when he was fatally shot. The incident marked another life lost to gun violence in the city.
In the days following the shooting, the Rochester Police Department made an arrest in connection with Woods' death.
Thirty-one-year-old Shayla Betances, who was identified as the victim's girlfriend, was taken into custody. Betances was subsequently charged with manslaughter and a weapon charge for her alleged role in the fatal shooting. The authorities have stated that Betances shot her boyfriend inside the residence.
