On a Monday morning, September 9, 2024, a Jamaican man named Denver Bernard, aged 46, was preparing to leave his Bronx home for another day of work. A recent immigrant to New York, he worked in construction to support his family. Just before 8:00 a.m., as he stood outside his residence near East 216th Street and Paulding Avenue, a dark-colored vehicle approached.
