On a Saturday morning in Lyons, New York, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 40-year-old Shawn G. Rahn. On September 21, 2024, Wayne County Deputies responded to 911 calls reporting a domestic violence incident and gunfire at an apartment on Maple Street. When they arrived, they found Rahn deceased from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigations revealed that a woman at the residence had called Rahn, a family friend who lived nearby, for help during a
dispute. Rahn, described by his daughter as a 'protector' who was always ready to help others, went to the apartment to intervene. During the altercation that followed, Randolph L. Scott, a 37-year-old resident of the apartment, shot Rahn with an illegally obtained handgun.
Following the shooting, law enforcement quickly identified Scott as the suspect. He was taken into custody approximately two hours later at a neighboring residence. The weapon used in the shooting was also recovered. The area around the apartment was cordoned off for several hours as police investigated the scene, an investigation that brought a nearby Little League baseball game to an abrupt halt.
Randolph L. Scott was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He was arraigned the following day and remanded to the Wayne County Jail without bail. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to determine how Scott obtained the illegal handgun and ammunition.
