In the quiet community of Jefferson Valley, New York, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of November 9, 2024, ending the life of 63-year-old Geraldine 'Geri' Krecmer. A beloved mother and grandmother, Geri was fatally shot at the Coach-n-Four Apartments on East Main Street. The incident, which was initially reported to the Yorktown Police as shots fired around 9:38 p.m., was not a random act of violence but the tragic culmination of a domestic dispute in which Geri was not the intended victim.
Authorities quickly identified 51-year-old Salvatore Ciniglio as the suspect. The investigation revealed that Ciniglio's actual target was his estranged domestic partner, Geri Krecmer's daughter, who was inside the apartment at the time. It is believed that Ciniglio, who shared a child with Krecmer's daughter, was lying in wait and ambushed Geri when she returned home. After assaulting her, he fired at least two shots into the apartment, aiming for his former partner, before turning the weapon on Geri.
Following the shooting, Ciniglio fled the scene, sparking a multi-agency manhunt. Information about his vehicle was distributed to law enforcement, and he was eventually tracked to the Bronx. When officers from the New York City Police Department attempted to stop him, Ciniglio led them on a brief chase. As police approached the stopped vehicle, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe Ciniglio acted alone.
