On January 7, 2023, 24-year-old Jesse Lopez was fatally shot at a Conoco gas station in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Surveillance footage revealed that Lopez attempted to steal a vehicle belonging to 26-year-old Brett M. Kress. In response, Kress pursued Lopez and fired multiple shots as Lopez tried to flee, striking him three times. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
