On January 24, 2023, 38-year-old Kay Johnson was fatally shot during an attempted carjacking outside her home in the 4700 block of Compton Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. As she was pulling her car into her garage, accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter, assailants approached and demanded she exit the vehicle. When Johnson did not comply quickly enough, she was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene.
