On March 8, 2023, a tragic domestic violence incident claimed the life of 38-year-old Lauren 'Laurie' Jennings Foland at her residence near Foley, Missouri. Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home, located in the 2500 block of Highway W, after receiving a 911 call from one of the children inside the house. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the bodies of Lauren and her father, 72-year-old Scott Preston Causey, both of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation determined that Lauren’s husband, 56-year-old Phillip Lee Foland, was the perpetrator of the double homicide. Following the shooting of his wife and father-in-law, Phillip turned the weapon on himself. He was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Four children were present in the home at the time of the violence but managed to escape physically unharmed. They were subsequently placed into protective custody. As the shooter died from his injuries, there were no arrests or trials connected to the case, and the Sheriff's Office concluded the event was a murder-suicide.
