On May 23, 2023, at approximately 12:20 a.m., 39-year-old Nichalaus Kaznoch was fatally shot in the chest within the common hallway of the Toronto Apartments, located at 4398 West Pine Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. Both Kaznoch and the alleged shooter, 23-year-old Kevin Smallwood, resided in this apartment complex situated in the Central West End neighborhood.
