On June 7, 2023, at approximately 5:38 a.m., Kansas City police responded to reports of an injury accident on westbound Interstate 670 near Broadway Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Monique "Crystal" Rayner inside a vehicle, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
