The incident took place just before 12:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of Chippewa Street, near its intersection with Gravois Avenue. Featherston was present at the location with a 36-year-old female companion when an unknown individual operating a motorcycle drove past them and opened fire.

The woman accompanying him also suffered gunshot wounds but survived the assault.
