In a quiet subdivision in Ballwin, Missouri, a tragedy unfolded that left a family deceased and a community in shock. On August 10, 2023, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a home on Glandore Drive to conduct a welfare check. Inside, they made a grim discovery. Mary Raab, a 64-year-old White/Caucasian female, was found dead from a gunshot wound.
Also found in the home were Raab's daughter, 27-year-old Claire Gyurkikiss, and Raab's 61-year-old husband, Paul Gyurkikiss, both of
whom had also been fatally shot. Investigators from the St. Louis County Police Department quickly determined that the incident was a double murder-suicide. The evidence indicated that Paul Gyurkikiss shot and killed his wife, Mary, and their daughter, Claire, before turning the gun on himself.
Neighbors described the family as quiet, and the violent event stunned those who lived nearby in what was considered a safe and peaceful area. Mary Raab was remembered as a shy, sweet, and intelligent woman who worked as a Medical Technologist. The incident highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence. As Paul Gyurkikiss was identified as the perpetrator and was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Mary Raab and Claire Gyurkikiss.
