On the afternoon of August 25, 2023, St. Louis County police officers from the North County Precinct were dispatched to a residence in Florissant, Missouri, following a distress call regarding a shooting. The incident occurred in the 14300 block of River Oaks Court, a residential area in North St. Louis County. Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 4:35 p.m., where they discovered a female subject suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as KaLynn LeSha Drake, a
17-year-old female resident of the 6500 block of Coventry Drive in St. Louis. Emergency responders transported the teenager to a local hospital for life-saving treatment; however, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival.
Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Preliminary findings released by authorities indicated that the shooting appeared to be accidental and self-inflicted. Consequently, initial reports from the department did not list any suspects or announce any arrests in connection with the fatality, describing the event as a suspicious death investigation that pointed toward a tragic accident.
