In the crisp autumn air of a Thursday evening in Maplewood, Missouri, a dispute over a mere four hundred dollars escalated into a tragedy that would claim the life of Terron Vales. On October 26, 2023, the 32-year-old man found himself in a confrontation in the 2200 block of Yale Avenue with a group that included 18-year-old Justin Christopher Vance and two unnamed juveniles.
The demand for money was allegedly met with refusal, sparking a violent chain of events.
The altercation reportedly turned physical when one of the individuals with Vance began to assault Vales. In a sudden and fatal turn, Vance is said to have produced a handgun and shot Terron Vales in the back. The assailants then fled the scene, leaving Vales grievously wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the damage was done, and he was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched, quickly identifying Justin Christopher Vance as the primary suspect. Prosecutors have since charged Vance with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with evidence, alleging that he hid the firearm in a parking garage after the incident.
