On a Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis, 44-year-old Dennis Bieg was fatally shot in the back near River Des Peres Boulevard and Wanda Avenue. The incident, which occurred on November 7, 2023, prompted a swift police response. Upon their arrival at around 4:15 p.m., officers found Bieg, a resident of St. Louis County, who was then transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Erik Seitz, 36 years old.
Authorities have charged Seitz with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Bieg's death. The motive, as detailed in court documents, appears to be a love triangle involving Bieg, his wife, and Seitz.
Witnesses at the scene provided crucial information to law enforcement. One witness recounted seeing Bieg shot in the back as he was walking away, seemingly posing no threat. Another key witness was Bieg's wife, who acknowledged being romantically involved with Seitz. Seitz's ex-girlfriend also told police that Bieg had sent her text messages urging her to come to the park where the shooting took place. When she arrived, she heard gunshots and saw Bieg bleeding. During police questioning, Seitz claimed that Bieg had hit him with an object, causing him to black out, and he denied possessing a gun or shooting the victim. A red work van from Bieg Plumbing, the family business where Dennis Bieg was employed, was present at the scene and later towed by investigators. The company later stated that the incident was unrelated to his work.
