On November 18, 2023, at approximately 6:24 p.m., Springfield police officers responded to a disturbance involving a woman with a gun at the Price Cutter grocery store located at 1260 E. St. Louis Street. Prior to the officers' arrival, the woman fired a gun at Nathan Williams, a 25-year-old resident of Springfield, in the store's parking lot. Officers found Williams on the ground with a gunshot wound; he was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
