In the midday hours of Sunday, December 3, 2023, a concerning sight on the shoulder of southbound Interstate 55 brought traffic to a crawl and a passerby to the phone with authorities. Near Seventh Street, in the vicinity of St. Louis's Soulard neighborhood, a vehicle sat motionless, not merely pulled over, but marked by the distinct and ominous signs of violence: bullet holes riddled its frame.
When police arrived for what was initially reported as a "motorist assist," they discovered a grim scene inside.
Behind the wheel was Timothy Roberts, a 31-year-old Black male from the 1300 block of Benton Street. He was found unconscious and not breathing.
