On February 29, 2024, Officer Cody Allen, aged 35, of the Independence Police Department in Missouri, was fatally shot while responding to a distress call involving a court process server. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. at a residence on North Elsea Smith Road, where civil process server Drexel Mack was serving an eviction notice.
