In the quiet neighborhood of Jennings in St. Louis County, the evening of May 6, 2024, turned tragic for 36-year-old Darryl Mischeaux. That night, at approximately 8:45 p.m., police were dispatched to the 5300 block of Fletcher Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Darryl Mischeaux in his driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the homicide revealed a story of a car theft gone horribly wrong. According to authorities, a group of individuals were in the process of breaking into Mischeaux's Kia Stinger, which was parked in his driveway. The car's alarm was triggered, prompting Mischeaux to go outside and confront the individuals. During this confrontation, he was shot. The suspects then fled the scene, taking Mischeaux's car along with the vehicle they had arrived in.
In the weeks that followed, the St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons diligently pursued leads in the case. Their investigation led them to 19-year-old Terry Thomas. Evidence from historical cell phone records placed Thomas in the vicinity of the homicide at the time it occurred. Investigators also learned that Thomas had destroyed his phone upon learning he was a person of interest in the investigation. After being taken into custody, Thomas reportedly acknowledged his involvement in the crimes.
On June 21, 2024, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued a series of charges against Terry Thomas. These charges include Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution. Thomas is currently being held on a $750,000 cash-only bond. While one suspect has been apprehended, the investigation remains active as authorities continue to seek information on the other individuals involved in the fatal shooting of Darryl Mischeaux.
