On June 29, 2024, 20-year-old Adrian "Tony" Velez-Esparza was fatally shot in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Southwest Boulevard, near the La Bodega restaurant. Witnesses reported that Velez-Esparza was involved in a road rage altercation with another driver, during which he was shot. His vehicle then rolled into the outdoor seating area of the restaurant.
