In the quiet, early morning hours of a Saturday in Eolia, Missouri, a domestic argument escalated into a tragedy that would claim two lives. Just after midnight on July 27, 2024, deputies from the Pike County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Collage Circle Drive following a 911 call reporting a shooting.
Inside the home, they discovered the bodies of 26-year-old Timothy Todd and Kaitlyn Potter-Navratil, also 26. Both had been fatally shot.
Witnesses at the scene recounted a heated argument that had taken place shortly before the gunshots rang out. Timothy Todd and Kaitlyn Potter-Navratil were reportedly arguing with another resident of the home, 53-year-old Matthew Garrett Todd, who was Timothy's father.
According to witness statements, Matthew Todd had asked his son and Potter-Navratil to leave the residence. When they did not comply, he retrieved a firearm from another room. In a startling turn of events, he first fired three shots into the ceiling before turning the weapon on his son and Potter-Navratil, shooting them both.
Matthew Garrett Todd was arrested at the scene without incident. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. He is being held in the Pike County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
